Punching well above its weight, the Wharfedale Denton 1S delivers smooth, rich sound, in style.
A modern day classic
First introduced over fifty years ago, the original Denton 1 was a then radical compact speaker, with refreshingly clean lines, rounded edges and more expansive sound than its size might suggest. Fast forward to today, and the Wharfedale Denton 1S picks up the theme, with the same smooth style but now vastly improved components for modern day sound precision.
Perfect for smaller rooms
Compact and easy to place, the Denton 1S is ideal for using on stands, bookshelves or for wall mounting via optional brackets. The coaxial driver array helps deliver a broad spread of sound, with a reduced ‘sweet spot’ making it ideal for smaller and cluttered spaces where you can’t always listen perfectly on axis between the two speakers.
Smooth, cohesive sound
Featuring a coaxial driver arrangement, where the tweeter is located within the woofer’s centre, the Denton 1S delivers naturally cohesive and ‘together’ sound. By arranging the drivers in this way, they both radiate from a single acoustic centre, meaning that all the sound ‘arrives’ at your ears in one cohesive whole.
Detailed top end
At the top of the frequency response, Wharfedale’s silk dome tweeters create the perfect balance of detail and smoothness. Packed full of musical information, without being harsh, the treble blends seamlessly with the rest of the mix.
Big sound from compact speakers
Using a new, enhanced polypropylene cone, the bass response is warm, textured and surprisingly deep for such a compact speaker. Reaching right down to 45Hz, the bass extension easily matches many larger speakers. It blends seamlessly with the midrange, keeping the timing upbeat and toe-tapping.
Optimise the sound to suit the positioning, with Brilliance
Take a look around the back and, as well as the speaker terminals, you’ll find a Brilliance EQ switch. This provides subtle tuning, with the sound optimised for free-standing or near-wall positioning.
Choice of finishes
Although the rounded edges strongly evoke the original model, the new range of finishes is more wide-ranging and luxurious than the original. The smooth, matte paint finish is available in black, white and blue. Contrasting with this, the classic, textured grille and badging is more retro inspired.
Listen to a modern classic, with the Wharfedale Denton 1S.
